PHILANTHRΘPY: WOMEN'S ISSUES
Theta Alpha Sigma is very passionate about helping women in every way possible. Our goal is to raise awareness of any issues pertaining to women whether it be self-image, domestic violence, or public safety.
We hold Domestic Violence Awareness events throughout October to help raise awareness on issues that affect women around the world. Being a sorority who believes in fighting women's issues we hold these events to make sure we are providing the campus community with the knowledge that can empower and keep women safe. During the month we also host events in collaboration with outside groups like the Monterey rape Crisis center and the YWCA of Monterey County.

Take Back The Night is an event we do in March every year. We make posters regarding sexual assault and we march around campus with chants like " 2 4 6 8! NO MORE DATE RAPE!" or "HEY MISTER GET OFF MY SISTER". We like to use phrases that people will remember and help spread awareness. After the march we all get together and hold a candlelight vigil for those who have been affected by sexual assault.

Another event we host is Phenomenal Womyns Day, which is a banquet we like to have where we nominate women who we believe are phenomenal and is a true inspiration for what she's been through or for simply inspiring others. We like to award them with a little gift in recognition of being a Phenomenal Womyn.

We recently were sponsors for the the 1 Billion Rising Event held on CSUMB's Campus for the 1st time. The 1 Billion Rising Revolution is a worldwide awareness campaign about the statistic that 1 out of 3 women will be raped or sexually assaulted within their lifetime. With the current statistics of the world, that 1 billion women and girls. This revolution is held on February 14th to let people know that this generation will not allow that level of violence to happen to the women (and men) of our community.
